My Best Trade Scenario For Kyrie Irving
July 26th, 2017

I know, there is a lot of Kyrie talk going down but as the story develops it gets better and better. After analyzing the turmoil and going through numerous trade scenarios on ESPN's Trade Machine (shoutout to ESPN for making that available online) I have decided on a particular trade destination that benefits both teams as well as the fans and guess what? The team I chose was not on is list. It is the Boston Celtics.

Boston Receives: Kyrie Irving & Kevin Love
Cleveland Receives: Al Horford, Isaiah Thomas & Jaylen Brown

The first thing that I want to point out is the fact that the Cavs get the "young blue chip" demand that they are looking for in Jaylen Brown so you can check that box off. Additionally, you are getting an all star point guard in return in Thomas and exchanging all star caliber players (Love & Horford.) Now in order to make this deal happen you have to make a decision on Isaiah Thomas. I previously spoke on this topic in a prior article but we can touch base on it again. Danny Ainge should decide quick if he wants to extend Thomas' deal or jump the gun and get as much in return as possible. Next summer Thomas will be 29 and still standing a 5'9 and even though he is coming off of a 30 PPG season I would not give him that max deal he is looking for. So if Ainge decides not to do so, this deal would be the best option because you get a younger and arguably better talent in Kyrie Irving. Kyrie is up for roughly 37 million in these next two years (with a 3rd year player option) and I would like that better than giving Thomas a base salary of around 30 million for the next three to four years. While getting no drop-off at that position you take on Kevin Love's three year deal which is slightly better than Horford's deal. Kevin Love was 19 & 11 last season alongside LeBron so I like his chances of making an immediate impact in Boston. Now for the Cavs, I feel this is the best option as far as return in players now. They can trade with the Suns and get future picks and Bledsoe but in order to retain a fighting chance to keep Bron, I think you make this move to keep similar caliber talent around. As a fan of the game, this matchup in the ECF would be incredible. Think about it...Kyrie against LeBron, Gordon Hayward against Brown and Thomas, Love, Horford and Brown playing against old teammates. There will obviously be growing pains but I would say lets make it happen!
